Dr. Angela Riotto compares the true story to Mel Gibson's 2016 film depiction of Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, who served during the WWII Battle of Okinawa and refused to kill anyone. He became the first conscientious objector in American history to be awarded the Medal of Honor.
